What is Teppanyaki

Teppanyaki, a style of Japanese cuisine that uses an iron griddle cooktop to cook Steak(Beef), Shrimp(Shellfish), Yakisoba(Noodles), Rice and Vegetables in an artistic performance of skill and tricks. In Japan, Teppanyaki derived from Teppan, which means iron plate, and Yaki, which means grilled, broiled or pan-fried. Teppanyaki grills are heated flat surface grills and are widely used to cook food in front of guests at restaurants. The originator of the teppanyaki-style steakhouse is the Japanese restaurant chain Mison from Tokyo which introduced the concept of cooking Western-influenced food on a teppan in Japan in 1945.

  • Teppanyaki tables seat 4-12 per grill (two grills for larger groups)
  • Booths and Tables available for a more private seating
  • Sushi Bar available for walk-in

Our History

The Yu family has been feeding Northern Utah for more than three decades. First came Maple Gardens, a popular Chinese restaurant that originally opened in the early 1980s on Riverdale Rd and later moved to Washington Blvd. Then in the early 2000s, the Yu family opened Maple Express, continues to offer a more quick-serve approach to a few of Maple Gardens’ signature dishes.

Client Testimonials

  • "We were wondering if this place was as good as Tepanyaki and the answer is it's better! Everything tastes the exact same except our filet mignon was to die for! Looking around all the chefs seemed funny and entertaining, we had a blast!"

    Courtney P.
  • "I love Tepanyaki and and Tokyo Grill did not disappoint. A great place to take business associates or for special occasions. ...I really like seeing my food prepared in front of me and ensures you will only get the freshest food. The pricing is higher than some restaurants, but you get what you pay for. Not a place to eat every day of the week, for sure. But you won't be disappointed."

    Robert S.
  • "FILET MIGNON.  If there's one thing you take away from this review, it should be that the filet mignon is without-a-doubt-in-my-mind better than the New York.  It is so much more tender, melt in your mouth, amazing, and delicious.  My husband and I recently stopped by to celebrate our anniversary. ...And our chef was absolutely hilarious.  He had our table laughing the entire time.  We really enjoyed our dinner!"

    Tawnee W.
  • "Awesome time at Tokyo Station just now. Sushi, Sashimi, and Nigiri was on point. Our waitress was awesome, checked on us and refilled our drinks at exactly the right times. Sushi chef was very quite, but you could tell he was focused on the food."

    Bryce L.
  • "Me and my husband went for our anniversary it was wonderful the restaurant was very light and open. The food was cooked perfectly combine that with the atmosphere of the restaurant and it created a wonderful evening. I loved also how close it was to our home and I didn't have to travel far for amazing tepenyaki and sushi we will be sure to return!"

    Acacia C.
  • "We've been a couple of times. Had the tepanaki, sushi, oyster shots, and edamame. All of it has been great! The service and chefs have been hard working and cheerful. Love the environment!"

    Elizabeth V.
  • "Was amazing! The filet was beyond what I expected! And the staff was very friendly."

    Whitney K.
  • "We got right in on a Monday night, no wait. Ordered some rolls and some crab wontons. Food and service were both excellent. Will definitely return!"

    Lindsay K.
  • "Easily one of the best steaks in Ogden (filet mignon), the food is fantastic and the chefs are top notch at this hibachi grill. Ogden dining is better for having this delightful Japanese eatery. I highly suggest giving it a shot."

    Daemon G.
  • "This is mine and my boyfriend's favorite sushi joint. It's not the closest sushi place (we live in Clinton) but it's worth driving to ogden for. The staff remembers us everytime and are always really sweet and attentive. The sushi is always fresh and delicious, the hibachi style food is top notch and it's all a little cheaper than Teppenyaki. If you like Teppenyaki, but don't want to spend a fortune, go here."
